Welcome to our blog in the Romahome news section, which will follow our meanderings around the UK. There’s plenty of it we’ve still to see.

The Romahome R30 is our fifth motorhome. We started the traditional way with a Volkswagen, a T4 high top, before deciding “luxuries” were actually essential so we bought a van conversion with a toilet / shower.

We progressed to a coachbuilt but decided that van conversions were more our thing so switched back. After almost three years, and the arrival of grandchildren, we realised that four belted seats were vital, as was a compact size.

The R30 is the same dimensions as our second van but there are features that are already winning us over - the slideout wardrobe, tambour washroom door, clever underfloor storage, and the quality of the rear seat construction, which makes us more confident about belting in the child seats we need.

It’s compact, too, so easy to park. We also like the Romahome GRP roof, which gives a sensible Luton over the cab that other makers largely seem to have abandoned in favour of a factory high top with lesser capacity.

The R30 has something that had never struck us before, a sink unit combined with the worktop and the side panel of the van in one moulding to stop water going down the back, as in inevitably does, and draughts coming up from the fridge vents, a problem we’ve had with all our other vans.

Lastly, the hinged extra worktop in the kitchen area and two tables mean there’s lots of work surface and elbow room for everyone at mealtimes. Spring’s coming, and we’re ready to roll!
