Time well spent winning £2.1 million new business

Half a dozen days attending the National Motorhome and Caravan Show at the NEC from October 15 to 20 proved to be time well spent for Freeborn Group companies.

Freeborn, based in Southampton and with Citroen dealerships in the city, Winchester, Godalming, and Wokingham, gained £2.1 million in new business during the event, with Freeborn Motorhomes staff  the top performers for the Auto-Trail brand for the second year running and also getting strong interest in its own Romahome range.

“Six days at the NEC is always a huge effort but it was a great way to end a very active and successful motorhome show season for Freeborn Motorhomes and the Romahome Centre,” said Freeborn Group sales manager Chris Healy.

“While we were keen to win sales for other brands and did very well at it we also wanted the opportunity to introduce Romahome buyers to our new strategy, which involves building our small coachbuilt models on pre-owned chassis going forward.

“Romahomes are now being manufactured in a new, more modern facility at Cowes on the Isle of Wight but changes to Citroen base vehicles for 2014 production make it impossible to continue building our small coachbuilts on new chassis.

“Fortunately, Freeborn is the largest independently-owned Citroen dealer group in the country, giving us access to a vast selection of high quality pre-owned Citroen Berlingo vans so it’s not the end of the road, merely turning the corner in a new direction while we find a new base vehicle solution.

“There is a limited number of new chassis available and buyers have been very receptive for the new concept, which will allow prices to be even more competitive. Romahome will still continue with brand new base vehicles for its R10 and R30 van conversions.”

In a tougher motorhome market, where some dealers are experiencing as dwindling market share, Freeborn Motorhomes has continued to perform strongly, added Chris, with much more business still to be completed from NEC enquiries.

“Some of the NEC sales are for March delivery next year and will bring trade-ins, so we are holding a sale throughout November to make space for this new stock and will have some very competitive deals on both used vehicles and end-of-range 2013 new motorhomes.”
